Japan just lost on penalty kicks. Sad It would have been awesome if an Asian team got to the semi-finals.

Bummed about Portugal too. Most of the time they ran a counterattack, they were pinned to the far side. Almost as if Spain trapped them into that side. Portugal would either pass it to no one (it'd go out) or try to launch it into the center where Ronaldo, the lone white shirt, was surrounded by at least 3 red shirts. Most of the time it didn't even get close to him.

Then the one chance Ronaldo gets where there was only one red shirt on him (second half), the defender pushes him down & the ref doesn't call it. A good defensive move since Ronaldo had the defender beat, but it sucks for Ronaldo.

Tough game for Portugal, but Spain was dominant. Spain deserved to win. It proves that even if you've got a great defense, if you can't attack, you most likely won't win (unless you draw a penalty & get a free kick). And you can't attack with one player against a good defense. You might be able to draw & go to penalty kicks, but that's a risky game plan. You let one through and the game is over before the whistle blows.

I know... they did deserve it. Sad I'm still bummed, though!

I'm gonna support Uruguay now. T_T FORLAN~!!!!!!!!! FORLAN THE MAN!!!

Portugal just has problems scoring in general under Carlos Queiroz who's emphasised the defensive approach.

An interesting article on why Americans call "football" "soccer"... we're not so backwards as football fans assume...

Yeah... heartbreaking for Ghana is right. Especially since their penalty kick for the handball (that stopped a goal a the end of overtime) missed.

Mathi's happy. Smile

But you've got to hand it to Argentina, they didn't give up & just defend. They really wanted a goal & kept trying. Even when it wasn't possible to win.

Yeah. The Germany game was really good. They are so strong! It'll be interesting to see how they handle Spain tactically, especially since Muller's benched b/c of 2 yellow cards. (The second one was erroneous imo.)

Spain's main scorer is Villa, but Germany seems to have multiple players that score. I'd like to see how Germany tries to shut down Villa... like they shut down Messi.

Haha yeah... their shutdown of Messi was GLORIOUS and BEAUTIFUL in its entirety. It was like a triple mark, except it wasn't breaking their formation... T_T Beautiful. The German team is SOOOOOOO fit. Really. All up, all down, offside trap... *melts*

But I still like Uruguay the most out of the four remaining teams <.<

I think Germany has more than enough replacements for Mueller XD

It will be tough for Spain tomorrow^^.

Anyways, I think today's game against Uruguay is way more difficult than everybody thinks because the dutch enter it as favourites which might make them nervous a bit and give the Uruguayans^^ the essential coolness to attack. However, I still believe that the dutch will win!!
